On Tuesday, Ventura Superior Court Judge Roger L. Lund terminated actor Amanda Bynes conservatorship after nearly nine years. The child actor who first appeared on Nickelodeon and later in movies such as Hairspray, Easy A and more was under the conservatorship of her parents. She has received full support from them to end the arrangement.
Judge Lund observed that Bynes had done everything that was required by the court before he signed the termination order. He congratulated her and wished her “good luck.” He also lauded all the people involved and said “fantastic job, everyone,” at the end of the hearing. Amanda and her parents did not appear in court. The hearing was also made available over teleconferencing.
Bynes’ attorney also requested for a final accounting by her trust. This issue is not under the conservatorship so it would be considered under separate proceedings. However, Judge Lund noted that there was no reason to believe that there would be any issues to resolve.
Amanda Bynes was under conservatorship from August 2013. She had several run-ins with the police. Her mother Lynn Bynes was in charge of her personal and medical decisions as well as her financial affairs.
In a 2018 interview with Paper magazine, she said that substance abuse was the reason behind her erratic behavior and gave credit to her parents for helping her overcome several issues. She also mentioned that she had completed four years of sobriety, during the interview.
She also said that she was both ashamed and embarrassed by her earlier behavior and would turn back time, if it was possible, but it was not. She also apologized to all those whom she hurt or lied to and expressed sadness about how her behavior had affected people.
Amanda’s parents have been supportive of her decision to terminate the conservatorship. Their attorney Tamar Arminak said that they had been involved in the process and her mother Lynn was rather excited that her daughter’s life would proceed to a “next chapter.”
Bynes is studying for a bachelor’s degree in Los Angeles. She has already obtained an associate degree cum laude from the same Fashion Institute of Design in LA in merchandise product development.
As we wish Amanda Bynes all the best in her onward journey as she continues with her sobriety and other goals together with her fiancé Michael, we also spare a thought and prayer for Britney Spears. The pop princess went through what she described as an abusive 13-year conservatorship but didn’t not receive support from her family. We hope that she stays happy with fiancé Sam Asghari.
