Costco Sells $100 Million Gold Bars. Gold has a reputation as an inflation hedge since it has historically done well during times of economic uncertainty. Early in December, spot gold prices hit a record high of almost $2,100 per ounce due to persistent recession fears.
The bars, which are the PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan series are currently out of stock and cost between $1,950 and $1,980 this fall. The spot price for gold was more than $2,000 an ounce as of Monday. Gold was trading at $2,036.19 an ounce Dec December 15, 2023, on Friday morning.
Customers cannot purchase more than two bars per Costco membership.
