The 2024 Copa America will be played in the United States, organizers confirmed Friday.

The 16-team men’s soccer tournament will feature 10 clubs from South America’s CONMEBOL and six teams from CONCACAF, which covers North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Discussions with potential U.S. venues are already underway, ESPN reported.

Several of the cities preparing to host the 2026 World Cup could also be used for the Copa America.

“CONMEBOL and CONCACAF are united by historical and affective ties,” CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez said in a statement. “But above all, we are united by the passion, characteristic of all the Americas, for football and sports.

“We are determined to renew and expand our joint initiatives and projects. We want this passion to translate into more and better competitions and for football and its values to grow and strengthen throughout the hemisphere. Without a doubt, both confederations believe in big, and we will work with this orientation.”

Argentina is the defending Copa America and World Cup champion.

The U.S. men’s national team last competed in the event in 2016, reaching the semifinals. That tournament also took place in the U.S.
