Luis Quinones delivered an assist and a goal just before halftime, leading host Tigres UANL to a 2-1 win over Leon on Tuesday in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series at San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico.

Tigres’ Francisco Cordova tied the game 1-1 by bouncing in a 12-foot shot off an outside-of-the-foot cross from Quinones in the 45th minute. Tigres’ Andre-Pierre Gignac whiffed on an attempted bicycle kick, but Cordova was right behind to knock in his shot.

In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Quinones fired a left-footed volley past Leon goalie Rodolfo Cota.

Leon’s Victor Davila opened the scoring in the sixth minute, firing a left-footed shot inside the far post from just outside the penalty area.

The second leg of the total-goal series will be played May 3 in Leon, Mexico.

The other semifinal series begins Wednesday when Los Angeles FC opposes the Philadelphia Union in Chester, Pa.
