Celebrity Chris Rock who was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars on Sunday, has revealed his past experiences with bullying and how they led him to let people ‘walk all over’ him in a podcast in January.
The actor-director-producer appeared on the Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast on January 12, where he discussed his past experiences and how they impacted him as an adult. Rock claimed that the bullying was half because he was little and black. He asserted that the episode taught him to be afraid of his own wrath and, as a result, to let people ‘walk all over’ him in order to avoid conflict.
Rock said that his therapist urged him to move on from the incident in order to benefit him in his adult life. According to Rock, he was eventually able to express his rage without exploding.
Chris Rock displayed great control when actor, rapper, and film producer Will Smith got into a tiff with him at the Oscars on March 27. While presenting the prize, Chris Rock joked about Will Smith’s wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith being in ‘G.I. Jane’ due of her shaved head. Shortly afterward, Smith came onto the stage and hit him across the face. To a surprised audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, Smith then returned to his seat and shouted to Rock, asking him to refrain from saying his wife/’s name.
The British equivalent of the Oscars, the BAFTA Awards, has taken a strong position against violence, stating that Will Smith would have been expelled from the ceremony if he had slapped someone onstage. If the incident that has everyone talking had happened at the BAFTAs in England, Smith would have been moved out of the building right away, according to Sara Putt, chair of BAFTA’s television committee, when asked what BAFTA would do in a similar situation.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, who have said that they would launch an inquiry into the incident, said that it was “appalled” by the entertainer’s actions.

The president of the Academy’s Board of Governors has reportedly said that the 94th Oscars’ transmission was meant to be a celebration for those who did tremendous work this past year. The Board would determine appropriate action for Smith, he said.
Meanwhile, Smith apologized on social media and expressed regret to the Academy, the producers, guests, and viewers of the ceremony, as well as the Williams family and the cast and crew of his film. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Rock did not seek charges in connection with the incident.
