Manchester, UK — Grammy-winning R&B star Chris Brown was arrested early Thursday morning at Manchester’s upscale Lowry Hotel in connection with a 2023 nightclub assault case, CWEB News has confirmed. The 36-year-old artist, best known for hits like “Under the Influence”, was taken into custody at approximately 2 a.m. by UK authorities investigating an alleged violent incident involving music producer Abe Diaw.
According to CWEB News sources, Brown had just arrived in Manchester via private jet ahead of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour, scheduled to kick off in June with multiple performances across the UK and Europe, including two shows in Manchester.
The arrest, confirmed by the Metropolitan Police, stems from an incident on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London. Brown allegedly struck Diaw with a bottle, causing significant injuries.
A spokesperson for the Met told CWEB News:
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody. The arrest relates to an incident in Hanover Square in February 2023, investigated by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
The alleged victim, Abe Diaw, filed a $16 million civil lawsuit in October 2023, citing physical trauma, emotional distress, and professional setbacks caused by the altercation. His legal team described the attack as a “vicious assault” during Brown’s London tour appearance.
This latest arrest marks another entry in Chris Brown’s legal history. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony assault after a widely publicized incident involving then-girlfriend Rihanna. Later, in 2017, a restraining order was granted to ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran following allegations of abuse and harassment.
CWEB News has also learned that reporters from The Sun tracked Brown’s arrival in Manchester shortly before the arrest. With the Breezy Bowl XX Tour approaching, fans and industry insiders are now speculating whether upcoming tour dates will proceed as scheduled amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
As of the time of publication, Chris Brown’s representatives have not issued a statement.
