The City of Chicago and Cook County will each use financing from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to start ambitious guaranteed income pilot programs in 2022 to address these pervasive gaps and hasten our region’s progress toward a fair economic recovery.
What does the Chicago Promise encompass?
The $42 million Promise Pilot, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), will provide 3,250 residents with $500 monthly payments over the course of two years. A household income of at least 250% of the federal poverty threshold and a minimum age of 18 are requirements for applicants.
Starting in the summer of 2022, 5,000 residents of Chicago will receive $500 per month as part of the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot. Over the course of two years starting in the fall of 2022, the Cook County Promise Guaranteed Income Pilot will give $500 per month to about 3,250 citizens of Cook County. These initiatives are desperately needed; for the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot, more than 100,000 completed applications came from city residents.
The Inclusive Economy Lab and the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. Together, these pilot projects make up the greatest US metropolitan area-level commitment in unconditional cash support.
