Cody Fajardo hit Tyson Philpot for a 19-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds remaining to give the Montreal Alouettes a 28-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 110th Grey Cup game on Sunday in Hamilton, Ontario.

Montreal (14-7) won its first Canadian Football League championship since 2010.

Fajardo completed 21 of 26 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Williams Stanback rushed for 68 yards and a score, and Austin Mack caught six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Winnipeg, which lost in the Grey Cup for the second straight year, took a 24-21 lead with just over five minutes remaining after a 4-yard touchdown run by Dakota Prukop.

Montreal got the ball back inside its own 27-yard line with under two minutes remaining and drove down the field, with Fajardo hitting Cole Spieker for a 31-yard gain down to the Winnipeg 19-yard line on a third-and-5 play that Montreal needed to convert to keep the game going.

Fajardo then hit Philpot over the middle of the field for the title-clinching touchdown.

Prukop scored two of the Blue Bombers’ three touchdowns. Quarterback Zach Collaros completed 19 of 23 passes for 236 yards and one interception.

Trailing 17-7 at halftime, Montreal cut its deficit to 17-14 with about 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Fajardo to Spieker.

The Alouettes then took a 21-17 lead with about 11 minutes remaining in the game after a 13-yard touchdown pass from Fajardo to Mack.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with 8:32 left in the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead on a 25-yard field goal by Sergio Castillo.

The Blue Bombers then went up 10-0 with about three minutes to go in the first on a 5-yard touchdown run by Brady Oliveira.

Montreal responded on its next possession, driving 67 yards in four plays and cutting Winnipeg’s lead to 10-7 just before the first quarter ended on a 32-yard touchdown run by Stanback.

With just under three minutes left in the second quarter, Winnipeg grabbed a 17-7 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Prukop.
