On Friday, Michael Cole announced the indefinite suspension of Sasha Banks and Naomi on WWE Friday Night Smackdown. The WWE also took down their merchandise pages. Sasha Banks and Naomi had refused to participate in a match that was held at Monday Night Row. Both of them had staged a walkout. They were stripped of their titles.
Cole said that Sasha Banks and Naomi had let everyone down. He added that the “WWE women’s tag team champions” had walked out of the show as well as the building “during Monday Night Row.” He said that they had left their championship belts with John Laurinaitis, the head of talent relations, before they left. Cole also said that both of them had disappointed millions of fans of the WWE as well as their “fellow superstars.”
Sasha Banks and Naomi were at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, on Monday. They were scheduled to participate in a match with Becky Lynch, Asuka, Doudrop and Niki A.S.H. The match was supposed to determine who will be the number one contender to face Raw women’s Bianca Belair on June 5, to be held at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Asuka defeated Becky Lynch and has earned the spot in a singles match.
On May 21, early in the morning, the WWE official page on Twitter posted that Sasha Banks and Naomi have been suspended indefinitely and that there would be a “future tournament to crown the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.”
Naomi and Sasha Banks have maintained silence up to the publication of this report. There are conflicting claims on why the two champions walked out at the last moment. The actual reason for the walkout will be made clear only after the two champions break their silence and give their reasons for walking out, despite being champions.
