On Tuesday, adult film actress Stormy Daniels thanked former president Donald Trump for seemingly acknowledging that they had an affair “a long time ago.” Trump had previously stated that he “never had an affair.” She also made fun of the former president for using poor grammar in a social media post. Daniels brought up the former president’s derogatory nickname for her, ‘horse face’, in response to his criticism.
A screenshot of Trump’s post, in which he seemed to hint that an affair with Daniels had occurred in the past, was included in Daniels’ tweet.
“With respect to the ‘Stormy’ nonsense, it is VERY OLD & happened a long time ago, long past the very publicly known & accepted deadline of the Statute of Limitations,” Trump wrote. The former president also continued to deny that he had an affair with the actress in other posts on the social media platform created by Trump Media & Technology Group.
The banter between the two on social media came as NYC prosecutors started presenting evidence to a grand jury about the reportedly “hush money scheme” Trump is alleged to have used to prevent the actress from revealing his extramarital affair with her before the 2016 elections.
Daniels alleges that she had a brief fling with Trump while he was still married to former First Lady Melania Trump, who had just given birth to their son Barron. According to Daniels, the then-president paid her $130,000 via his former personal attorney Michael Cohen to remain silent.
Without naming him, Trump placed the blame for the situation on Cohen, saying there was no reason to not rely on him. In 2018, Cohen admitted to breaking the campaign finance laws and was given a three-year prison term for organizing the payment and non-disclosure agreement with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
Following investigations, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges and was sentenced to a year in prison and several more years of supervised release. Business records that New York prosecutors later obtained from Trump’s company showed that it reimbursed Cohen for the payment under the pretense of paying him for legal services.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has called witnesses to testify about the payments, so it is expected that Trump will be charged with falsifying business records, reports say.
