Celebrity Pete Davidson, one of the youngest members of Saturday Night Live (SNL) is expected to exit the show along with other popular veterans including Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney. Today’s episode, the season finale of the 47th season, is expected to be the one where all these comedians will make their final appearances on the iconic show.
Their exit has sort of been expected as the SNL cast had 21 members, eight of whom had been with the NBC show from at least eight seasons or more. Variety had broken the news of Pete’s exit while Deadline reported the exit of the rest, although SNL declined to confirm the news before the broadcast of their season finale.
Some of the SNL cast who are moving on are still maintaining ties with the executive producer and others as they move to new projects. Lorne Michaels, who created the iconic show, said that he had been expecting the year to be a “year of change.” However, he has continued to work in other shows and series with those who are reportedly exiting. He has also been flexible with his SNL stars and lets them work in other projects.
Pete Davidson will appear on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, in a series called Bupkis along with Edie Falco, who will play the role of his mom. He has been appearing in fewer SNL episodes and has been concentrating on other roles including “The King of Staten Island,” “The Home” and more.
Pete Davidson is also involved in a relationship with reality star Kim Kardashian, who appeared on SNL, last November, following which they began dating. His reported exit from SNL has made some fans comment that it was because of his girlfriend, Skims founder Kim Kardashian.
McKinnon recently took a break from SNL to film for Tiger King scripted series Joe vs Carole. She plays Carole Baskins in the drama series which appears on Peacock.
In 2012, there was a huge exodus of talent from SNL including Andy Samberg, Abby Elliot, Kristen Wiig, followed by Jason Sudeikis, and new talent emerged. Now with the exit of seasoned SNL cast, once again, it can be assumed that new talent will take their place on SNL and make it as popular if not more popular than before.
