Celebrity Sonya Eddy, a former ‘General Hospital’ actress, died at the age of 55 from a ‘uncontrollable infection.’

Celebrity Sonya Eddy died at a hospital in Burbank, California, “due to an uncontrollable infection (following) a scheduled, non-emergency surgery,” according to Ford.

Octavia Spencer was the first to confirm the soap star’s death, according to Page Six. She posted an Instagram photo of Eddy the day after she died. Spencer stated: “My friend @sonyaeddy died last night. Another creative angel has left the world. Her legions of fans at @generalhospitalabc will miss her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and fans.” Eddy made an impression on her fans, who flooded the comments section with tributes to the soap star.

“The world has lost another creative angel,” Spencer captioned an Instagram photo of Eddy on Tuesday. “Her legions of fans at @generalhospitalabc will miss her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and fans!”

Eddy first appeared on the venerable ABC soap in 2006, playing a nurse and Stan Johnson’s (Kiko Ellsworth) mother for over a decade. She later joined the cast of the prime time spin-off “General Hospital: Night Shift.”

Her other acting credits, in addition to “General Hospital,” include Seora Porter in Warner Bros.’ “The Middle” and Deb in ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.” She also appeared in sitcoms such as “Married… with Children,” “Seinfeld,” “Home Improvement,” “Glee,” “Mike & Molly,” “2 Broke Girls,” “The Middle,” and “PEN15.”
