Celebrity singer Shakira is now facing a second probe on alleged tax fraud in Spain. On Thursday, a Spanish court said that there was an alleged fraud on income and wealth tax in 2018. The first investigation was for back taxes that were owed by the singer between 2012 and 2014. This case is expected to go on trial towards the end of this year. The Queen of Latin Pop as she is referred to by her web fans has denied any wrongdoing.
The Higher Court of Justice of Catalonia press office released a statement that an investigating magistrate belonging to the Barcelona suburb of Esplugues de Llobregat “has opened an investigation drawing on a complaint filed by prosecutors against the singer Shakira for two alleged counts.” These tax frauds reportedly took place in 2018.
Shakira was living with her partner legendary footballer Gerard Piqué and their two sons in Barcelona. After the celebrity couple ended their relationship of eleven years, a few months ago, the celebrity singer poured her angst into music and musical collaborations that have been super hits.
Celebrity Shakira also moved to Miami with her two sons, in April. A spokesperson for the Colombian born singer said on Thursday morning that Shakira “had not received any formal notification of the Prosecutor’s complaint.”
The spokesperson also said that her legal team would not comment until the notification reached them “through the official and legally established channels.”
The spokesperson added, “She must be notified personally at her new address, in strict accordance with the provisions of the Law.”
Shakira is not the only celebrity star to face tax evasion. Spanish authorities have also come down on celebrity soccer stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. They were found guilty but avoided prison sentences due to a provision that allowed a judge to waive the sentences as the sentences were under two years for first time offenders.

The Grammy-award winning celebrity singer refused to settle the case. Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Shakira said that she spent most of her time away from Spain and that she had not intentionally hidden her earnings and that misunderstandings were “a difference in criteria.”
The Spanish newspaper also said that the second case was due to “some alleged irregularity detected by the Treasury that, in the eyes of the Prosecutor’s Office, may constitute a crime.”
Celebrity Shakira is making waves with her music as she appears as a mermaid and more in her latest videos and is thrilling her fans. But she might have to come down to earth as her if she loses her first case, it can lead to her not only paying a hefty fine but could also lead to a prison term.
