Celebrity Renee Poche sued Netflix and Delirium TV for her traumatic experience during the filming of the reality show Love Is Blind. She has also filed that the reality TV contract reportedly breaks several California labor laws. The lawsuit could also seek to address the broader issue of non-disclosure agreements, mainly in reality shows that lawyers believe do not require overhauling from decades but also have illegal provisions.
According to Variety, which was the first to report about the lawsuit filed by Celebrity Renee Poche, the suit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court. It seeks to nullify the reality TV star’s contract. It also claims that Poche suffered emotional distress that was intentionally inflicted on her, and also says that the contract violated several labor and civil codes in California.
According to the outlet, Poche described in detail how she felt like a “prisoner” and that Delirium did not help when she indicated that she did not feel safe with Carter Wall, the participant with whom a romance was initiated, before they saw each other, as per the storyline of the reality show Love Is Blind.
Poche said that she underwent intensive screening after a casting agent reached out to the Austin-based veterinarian and asked her if she was interested in being a contestant on the show Love is Blind. She said that it seemed as if her fellow participant Carter Wall had not undergone a similar process as he was “allegedly broke, jobless, unhoused, violent and addicted to amphetamines and alcohol” according to Variety. She also described Wall as abusive both on and off camera.
When Poche commented publicly about the nightmare she faced while filming Season 5 of Love Is Blind, Delirium TV proceeded to file private arbitration against her as she reportedly violated her non-disclosure agreement.
Hollywood power lawyers Bryan Freedman and Mark Geragos have filed a suit on behalf of celebrity Renee Poche against Netflix and Delirium TV.
Freedman told Variety that the “so-called reality TV contracts are, in reality, illegal” and more. He described them as “void as a matter of law” and added that hundreds of their clients were “ready to assert their claims.”
Neither Netflix, Delirium TV nor Carter Wall have responded when asked for comment.
