On June 24, two celebrity rappers Eminem and Snoop Dogg shared a new single called From the D to the LBC. The track also has an animated video which was directed by James Larese. Both the musicians are seen rapping live but sometimes get transformed into an animated world where they appear as avatars that resemble Bored Ape, one of the most popular NFTs of its time.
The rappers shout out to their respective hometowns, Detroit and Long Beach. The natives speedy flow gets the track moving and they also add some humor with their animated avatars. Both the rappers have sent a shout out to the cities that have shaped their careers: Detroit in Michigan and Long Beach in California, as they mention their area codes.
Eminem also posted on Instagram that a collaboration between the two celebrity rappers was long overdue. He not only mentioned their latest single From the D 2 to the LBC but also teased about Curtain Call 2 and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Eminem excited his fans with the hashtag of Curtain Call 2. They think that the rapper is talking about a sequel to his 2005 release, Curtain Call: The Hits.
Last month, Eminem released a reimagined version of Elvis Presley’s Jailhouse Rock for the soundtrack of Elvis by director Baz Luhrmann. It is titled “The King and I.” It also features a chorus from CeeLo Green. The rapper compares himself to Elvis and raps about how both of them have been criticized for coopting Black musicians’ songs and styles.
Both Eminem and Snoop Dogg had appeared at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, 2022, which honored rap music. Other celebrity rappers on the show included Dr. Dre, Mary Bilge, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent. Although they have appeared in an album, From the D 2 the LBC is the first head-to-head collaboration between the two celebrity rappers: Eminem and Snoop Dogg.
