Celebrity Queen Latifah has had a long and successful career as a pioneering female rapper as she successfully broke through a male dominated industry. Now, decades later the legendary rapper is getting a prestigious honor. She will be the first female rapper to be honored at the 46th Annual Kennedy Center Honors. Other honorees include celebrity Billy Crystal, Dionne Warwick, Barry Gibb, and Renée Fleming at an event to be held on December 3, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington D.C.
Queen Latifah released a statement saying that she was “humbled to be included” in the list of artists that would be honored by the Kennedy Center. She spoke about the hardships she faced in her musical career and the negative comments including the word “No” for the different artistic pathways she had chosen through her long and meaningful career.
