Kanye West, who is now known as Ye, has been now canceled by sportspersons as well. NFL Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald and Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown ended their association with the popular rapper’s brand management agency called Donda Sports, on Tuesday. Giant sneaker retailer Foot Locker also said that they have dropped Ye’s Yeezy brand.
Aaron Donald, three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and wife Erica released a statement which said that they wanted to send a clear message that there were consequences when hateful words and actions were used and that they didn’t feel that their “beliefs, voices and actions” belonged “anywhere near a space” that misrepresented and oppressed “people of any background, ethnicity or race.”
On Monday, Jaylen Brown had tentatively said that he would stay with Donda Sports but on the next day he said that he would “continue to stand strongly under against any antisemitism, hate speech, misrepresentation and oppressive rhetoric of any kind.”
Celebrity sportsmen Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown signed with Donda Sports, early in the year. The agency was expected to support the popular players for deals related to marketing and branding that were not related to the contracts they had already signed with their team–the LA Rams and the Boston Celtics.
When Donda Sports announced its deal with celebrity sportsman and former NFL receiver Antonio Brown it said that it would be “centered on professional and wellness support.” Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown appear to be the only clients announced by the agency. Its website is non-functional and its Instagram account has more than 279,000 followers but no posts, to date.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Footlocker said that the company remained a partner with Adidas and carried a wide assortment of the brand’s collection, but they would not support “any future Yeezy product drops.” They also said that they had told their retail operators to “pull any existing product” from their shelves as well as their digital sites.
