Celebrity Josh Sills, Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman, was charged with rape and kidnapping in Ohio just ten days before his team was scheduled to play in the Super Bowl. According to an indictment, 25-year-old Joshua Matthew Sills is accused of committing the crimes after an encounter with a woman on December 5, 2019, in Guernsey County, Ohio.
Prosecutors claimed that, in the alleged incident, Sills “did engage in sexual conduct” with a victim and “purposefully compelled her to submit by force or threat of force.”
Following an investigation by the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, a grand jury this week indicted Sills on one felony count of rape and one felony count of kidnapping. Sills “purposefully compelled” the victim to “submit by force or threat of force” to sexual activity, claim the prosecution.
The allegations relate to first-degree felony rape. The indictment claims that the NFL player “did, by force, threat, or deception, remove” the victim from “the place she was found” or “restrain the liberty of her for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a felony.” As a result, the NFL rookie is also charged with kidnapping the woman.
Four days after the Eagles and Chiefs square off at State Farm Stadium in Arizona for the Super Bowl 2023 on February 12, Sills is due in court – on February 16. Sills, who turned 25 on Thursday, attended both Oklahoma State and West Virginia during his time in college. He signed on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2022 campaign. He is the second-choice right guard on the Eagles’ depth chart and stood a good chance of playing in the Super Bowl on February 12.
On October 9, against the Cardinals, the rookie guard took part in one regular-season game for Philadelphia and played four special teams snaps. That game was a 20-17 Eagles victory. Sunday’s NFC Championship game saw the Eagles defeat the 49ers 31-7 to advance to the Super Bowl.
