Tory Lanez, a celebrity Canadian rapper was found guilty of all the charges against him, by a jury in a Los Angeles court, on December 23. He was accused of shooting celebrity musician Megan Thee Stallion on both her feet, after an argument, while they were returning from a party in Hollywood Hills. Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, could face 22 years in prison for felony. He can appeal the decision.
There was chaos in the courtroom after the guilty verdict was announced, according to KABC, Los Angeles. Lanez’s father shouted at the prosecutors and called them “witches” and “evil.” However his defense lawyers tried to diffuse the situation. The jury had deliberated for seven hours over two days before pronouncing the guilty verdict.
A reporter from ABC’s station, who was in the courtroom during the trial, also said that Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete said that she got out of a car on the night of July 12, 2020 after she had an argument with Lanez. She said she turned her head, after exiting the vehicle and walking away and saw that he had a gun.
The celebrity rapper added that the gun was pointed at her and claimed that Lanez said, “dance b****”, before firing at her feet and injuring them. She said that she had frozen on the spot…”and saw the blood.” She added that everyone was shocked.
During the trial, Canadian rapper Lanez chose not to take the witness stand. He pled not guilty to all the charges against him. His defense team claimed that he was not the shooter.
Pete’s estranged friend, Kelsey Harris initially said that Lanez was the alleged shooter when interviewed by prosecutors, in September, However, she changed her story on the witness stand, during the trial.
Another witness, Justin Edison a former bodyguard of Pete went missing before his testimony was due. However, he was located when the jury deliberations were ongoing.
While celebrity Meghan Thee Stallion’s legal team said that they were pleased with the guilty verdict, Lanez’s legal team expressed shock at the verdict and said that they would explore all legal options available. Fans are very excited for her.
Meanwhile rapper Tory Lanez has been taken into custody. KABC reported that his sentence for assaulting musician Megan Thee Stallion, is expected to be given on January 27, 2023.
