Celebrity singer-songwriter and musician Matty Healy’s controversial comments made on a podcast earlier this year have resurfaced, causes concern among celebrity singer Taylor Swift’s web fans and led to threats of boycotting her. The comments in question involved racist remarks about celebrity rapper Ice Spice and the objectification of Black women on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, reported multiple outlets. Healy is the son of ITV’s Loose Women panelist and British actor Tim Healy, who is well-known for his television work, and actress and presenter Denise Welch.
Although Spotify and Apple Music removed the episode containing the objectionable content by the Chocolate singer, an audio clip from the podcast remains on social media. In this clip, Healy and his co-hosts compared Ice to “one of the Inuit Spice Girls,” using derogatory terms and mocking Japanese accents.
Healy expressed regret for his remarks on Ice Spice made in 1975 in New Zealand during a concert. According to Rolling Stone, the artist said to the crowd that he “makes a joke out of everything” and “can take it too far in front of too many people” at times.
Another clip circulating on social media added fuel to the fire. In this segment, Healy’s co-host, Friedland, shared a story about catching Healy watching pornography on a site called Ghetto Gaggers after a party. Ghetto Gaggers is known for its extreme and degrading content, specifically targeting Black women and women of color.
Swift and Healy’s relationship has been the subject of romantic rumors for almost ten years, but it only recently came to light when both were seen together in a series of events.
The resurfacing of these comments has led Swift’s web fans, known as Swifties, to express their disappointment and anger. Some have even threatened to boycott Taylor Swift due to her association with Healy. Social media platforms have been filled with discussions and criticisms of Healy’s behavior, with users calling him out for his problematic actions and questioning Swift’s choice of partner.
