On Thursday, Oscar winning celebrity actor Kevin Spacey appeared in a court at Westminster, London. This was his first appearance after being charged with four counts of sexual assault that were filed against him, last month in the U.K.
According to a report in the London Evening Standard, the 62-year old American Beauty actor appeared in court, this morning, dressed in a blue suit and a dark patterned tie. Spacey arrived at the Westminster magistrates court in a silver Mercedes. He was accompanied by court security and a Metropolitan Police officer, together with his legal team.
He confirmed his name as Kevin Spacey Fowler, date of birth as well as his address in London, which is a luxury apartment in Westminster Bridge Road, close to the South Bank. The charges that had been made against The Usual Suspects actor were read out. He was not asked to enter a plea as the case has been sent for trial to Southwark crown court.
Patrick Gibbs, who is the Tony award winning actor’s attorney, said that Spacey denied all the charges put forth against him and had “returned to the U.K., as he wanted to establish his innocence.
Judge Ikram told the hearing that he had withdrawn an arrest warrant that was previously issued by him as the actor had voluntarily appeared in court.
Prosecutor Natalie Dawson argued that celebrity Kevin Spacey should not be allowed to leave Great Britain. She said that he might not return to the country to face trial. However, his lawyers argued that the Se7en actor needed to travel for work and that his main domicile was the U.S. and that the actor lived with his dog in the nation.
Despite protests from the prosecutor Judge Ikram gave the House of Cards alum unconditional bail. He also asked the defendant whether he should be referred to as Spacey or Fowler and he replied Fowler.
Kevin Spacey, who is a Tony, Golden Globe and BAFTA award winner is expected to appear for a formal plea hearing on July 14. He is scheduled to appear at the Southwark crown court.
