Celebrity dancer and singer JoJo Siwa, whose real name is Joelle Joanie, is well-known for her enormous hair bows, glittering costumes, larger-than-life demeanor, and status as an icon for the LGBTQ community, with millions of internet followers. When she was nine years old, she competed in the Dance Moms spinoff Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition for the second season in 2013. Since then, she has become a household name, conquering TV, music, commerce, and more.
The actress recently called out to Candace Cameron Bure, who plays D.J. The former Nickelodeon star’s response to the interview has already gone viral, prompting a comment from Bure’s Full and Fuller House co-star, Jodie Sweetin.
Siwa seemed to have had enough after hearing Bure’s comments on “traditional” families, as well as her transfer from the Hallmark network to GAC. The criticized Bure’s comments in a Wall Street Journal interview, in which the Fuller House star said she wouldn’t include LGBTQ couples in upcoming Christmas films on her conservative-leaning network, Great American Family, in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
Siwa wrote that it was impolite and insulting to the entire community. She took to Instagram to express her displeasure at Bure’s recent remark, a view shared by many, as her post received over 160,000 likes and a flood of comments in just four hours.
Actress and television personality Jodie Sweetin, who plays the role of Stephanie Tanner in Fuller House, was quick to comment on Siwa’s Instagram post. She told the social media star, “You know I love you .”
Bure not only stars in GAC films, but she also works as the network’s chief creative officer, thus she has considerable sway over the type of content developed and broadcasted on the network, which bills itself as “traditional-family-oriented general entertainment programming.” Bure stated in her most recent interview that she wanted to tell stories with more meaning. She told the WSJ that she knew the people behind Great American Family were Christians who loved the Lord and wanted to promote religious programming and wonderful family entertainment.
Celebrity JoJo is not the only star to criticize Candace Cameron Bure, and she’s far from the first. Hilarie Burton of One Tree Hill fame called Bure a “bigot” for her insistence on screening only Christian entertainment that promotes “traditional” family values. She reminded her that there was nothing ‘untraditional about same-sex couples.’
