Celebrity actor Idris Elba had said in an interview with a popular outlet that he no longer described himself as “a Black actor” as it limited him as an actor. His comment led to a frenzy on social media including fans and followers commenting that he had denied his Blackness. So, the talented 50-year clarified these comments in a recent interview with another popular outlet while promoting his new feature Luther: The Fallen Sun.”

In an interview, the 50-year-old London-born actor had told Esquire that he had “stopped describing” himself “as a Black actor” when he realized that it put him “in a box.” He later told The Guardian that this comment had led to several reactions and responses on social media which he described as a “conflict incubator.”
In the same interview, the celebrity actor of The Wire added, “Me saying I don’t like to call myself a Black actor is my prerogative. That’s me not you.” He also asked how could anyone say that he was “denying” his “Blackness.”
In the same interview with The Guardian, he questioned, “On what grounds? Did you hear that? Where am I denying it? And what for?”
The celebrity actor also added, “It’s just plain stupid. Whatever.”
Idris Elba also spoke about the rumors that he would be cast as the next James Bond and how close it came to him being cast as the iconic British Spy. When asked about discussions on the possible casting he said he could not speak for them but from his perspective there had “never been any sort of truth to any of it.”

The talented and good-looking actor who has appeared in the list of the world’s sexiest men, more than once and has even topped it said that the rumors that he was being considered for the role of Agent 007 were “a compliment” and “an honor” but was “not a truth.”
He ended the interview with The Guardian saying, “We are the same species. Our intellect, IQs, cultural backgrounds may be different, but our capabilities as human beings are the same.”
