On Wednesday afternoon, Jarez Posey, friend and manager of the nineties rapper Coolio said that he had died at the age of 59. The circumstances and other details of his death were not revealed, although the cause is suspected to be cardiac arrest. The rapper had not only been a chartbuster but was also a Grammy award winner, in 1996, for the song “Gangsta’s Paradise” which was the soundtrack in the film “Dangerous Minds,” which has been viewed a billion times.

Artis Leon Ivey Jr a.k.a. Coolio was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Compton, California. He has spoken of his past in interviews where he said that he became a volunteer firefighter in San Jose to get discipline in his life, as he had descended into a world of drugs and other habits.
He later made hip hop his full time career. He also acted in movies and appeared on TV shows. He hosted an internet series and wrote a book called “Cooking with Coolio,” as he loved food. He considered himself an all-round entertainer.
Coolio is still most recognized for his multiple award winning track “Gangsta’s Paradise” which stayed at the No. 1 position for 3 weeks and got a billion views on YouTube as on July 2022. Another track “Fantastic Voyage”, released in 1994, reached No. 3.

Coolio was active in the music scene for forty years. He cut eight studio albums. He won a Grammy as well as three MTV Video Music Awards. He was active till his untimely death. He was touring with other stars of the nineties including Vanilla Ice and Young MC. This group of celebrity singers of the nineties had performed in Texas, a few days ago before he died, on. September 28, 2022.
Tributes for Coolio poured in from celebrity actors, rappers and musicians including celebrity actress Michelle Pfeiffer, who acted in Dangerous Minds, celebrity rapper Snoop Dogg who collaborated with Coolio and many other celebrity musicians and rappers.
