Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3” did well at the box office this summer. The celebrity James Gunn directed movie is his last one with Marvel Studios as he will be starting as co-head of DC Studios. The movie follows a ragtag group of criminals who turn into heroes, and the audience has rewarded the film with good openings domestically as well as globally.
Disney and Marvel Studio’s “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 earned $114 million in the domestic box office while it earned $1.68 million from international markets this weekend, leading to a total of $282.1 million in its debut weekend.

It fell short of expectations in its opening frame as well as earning less than “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 which had a box office collection of $146.5 million in 2017. However, it fared better than an earlier Marvel release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” released in February that saw 7.2 million moviegoers while the superheroes of the galaxy attracted almost 8 million people to theaters. It had the second-biggest opening weekend of the year, following “The Super Mario Brothers with $146 million.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 got an A grade on CinemaScore. It also got 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and the studio is hopeful that word of mouth positive reviews will increase its life in theaters as there are a slew of summer movies waiting to be released including “Fast X” on May 19 and The Little Mermaid” on May 26.
