CWEB News – Russell Brand Charged with Rape, Sexual Assault
The Metropolitan Police disclosed that Brand faces six charges: one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. The alleged incidents occurred in multiple UK locations, including Bournemouth and London’s Westminster area. Authorities have ordered the 48-year-old, currently residing in the U.S., to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2, 2025.
The charges follow a September 2023 Channel 4 documentary that aired claims of sexual misconduct against Brand, prompting a police investigation. Specific allegations include:
- A 1999 rape in Bournemouth.
- A 2001 indecent assault in Westminster.
- A 2004 oral rape and sexual assault in central London.
- A separate sexual assault in Westminster occurred between 2004 and 2005.
Brand, born in Essex, rose to fame in the mid-2000s as the host of Big Mouth and through roles with MTV, NME, and the UK’s Live Earth concert. His career pivoted to YouTube in 2020, where he gained a massive following for his commentary on controversial topics.
Despite his denial, the case has reignited scrutiny over historical abuse allegations in the entertainment industry. Legal experts suggest extradition complexities could arise if Brand resists returning to the UK.
CWEB News will continue tracking developments in this case.
