A California Superior Court Judge decided on Wednesday that Britney Spears won’t have to testify under oath before her father’s attorneys. Mathew Rosengart, the pop star’s attorney, claimed that making the younger Spears take a filmed deposition would “re-traumatize” her.
The Spears conservatorship may be gone, but the legal battle over its repercussions is far from over. Jamie Spears is still requesting reimbursement for legal bills as well as other expenses. Judge Brenda Perry of the Superior Court has already authorized the deposition of Jamie by Britney’s attorneys. In order to investigate claims Britney made in court documents, Jamie’s attorneys had requested permission to have Britney deposed by the judge. As an illustration, Britney claimed in a recent filing that Jamie had taken “more than $6 million from his daughter’s earnings, while paying his countless lawyers and others many millions more.”
In a recent court document, Jamie’s counsel stated that Jamie is entitled to question Britney about her knowledge of the specific factual claims she decided to bring up in order to ascertain whether or not there is any supporting documentation.
Judge Perry declined Jamie’s motion on Wednesday, stating that Jamie could refute claims of misuse of the conservatorship with information obtained from other sources.
Jamie’s application was declined by the judge on the advice of Britney’s lawyer, who also criticized Jamie for even attempting to have his daughter deposed.
Harper’s Bazaar reports, “According to Entertainment Tonight, Paris Hilton confirmed the news in an interview with Paul Barewijk for his show, Paul Voor Je Neus, saying that she has actually heard the track and believes it’s an instant hit.”It’s gonna be iconic,” she said about the new single. “I just heard it a couple days ago in Ibiza and it is … it’s insane.”
He may not realize it, but his daughter has been scarred by what she witnessed at his hands more than ten years ago, according to Rosengart. “What would a good father do in such situation? He has publicly declared his affection for his daughter. If that is the case, he need to respect the court’s decision.”
