Celebrity Anne Heche was involved in a horrific car crash last week. She was badly injured in the resultant fire when her mini plowed through a home in California. Although the home was burnt no one except the star was injured. Yesterday, her family announced that the medical fraternity had confirmed that she was “brain dead.” Anne Heche’s family said that medical staff would check if any of her organs were viable for donation, as it was her wish to donate her organs after she died, following which life support would be turned off.
The 53-year old celebrity actress is in a coma at the Grossman Burn Center, at West Hospital, located north of Los Angeles. Heche will stay on the ventilator until her organs are checked if they are viable for donation, as per the actress’s wish.
A statement released on behalf of her family as well as her friends stated that Heche had a “severe anoxic brain injury” as a result of the fiery August 5 crash. The Thursday night statement also said that it had been her choice, from a long time, to donate her organs after her death. So, she would be kept on life support until medical staff confirm if she has viable organs that can be donated.
The statement also thanked everyone who had extended kind wishes and prayers for the celebrity’s recovery and also expressed gratitude towards the staff and nurses who were taking care of her in the hospital.
The lengthy statement also described Anne Heche as a person with a “huge heart”, and “a generous spirit” who spread kindness and joy. The statement also said that she was courageous and honest and would be “dearly missed for her light.”
An LAPD spokesman Matthew Cruz confirmed to outlets that the car crash was under investigation as a felony driving-under-the-influence (DUI) charge. However, the police were also testing to determine whether substances found during earlier tests might have been prescribed as pain medication and that the investigation was ongoing.
Anne Heche became successful at a young age. She won a Daytime Emmy award and two Soap Opera Digest Awards for her portrayal of twins in the soap opera Another World. However, her early family life as well as her relationships were tumultuous, which might have lead to the downward spiral of the talented American celebrity actress.
