Celebrity Al Pacino has released his autobiography, Sonny Boy. In it, he revealed many personal details, from childhood trauma to taking on film roles just for money after his accountant cheated him of $50 million. The Oscar-winning actor, who has played several iconic roles, including Michael Corleone in The Godfather, also mentioned that he saw the movie about half a century after it was released.
Al Pacino detailed his childhood trauma and said that he was still haunted by memories of how his penis was injured when a bar in an iron fence hit him between the legs. He said that he was about 10 years old when he received the painful injury. He was helped home by an older guy, but what followed was “embarrassing” as his mother, aunt, and grandmother poked around the appendage till a doctor came.
The 84-year-old actor calls his memoir Sonny Boy, as it is the nickname given to him by his mother. After his parents divorced, his mother and grandparents brought him up in the South Bronx. He began his career off-Broadway and became successful, starring in many blockbusters.
Al Pacino mentions his struggle with alcoholism and how he almost got kidnapped by a female fan, who gave him a lift but didn’t take him to his home till he threatened to jump out of the car and more.
The celebrity actor said that he was broke in 2011 when he lost $50 million due to an accountant who later served time for his scams. He said he began accepting all kinds of roles after that financial loss. He also frankly recalls incidents of directors, producers, and others in some of his movies, as he has nothing much to lose at this stage. He also said that he had donated his money anonymously.
The actor, who reportedly never got married, has fathered four children. He said that he wrote his memoir to leave a record for his children and other loved ones. Sonny Boy was released on October 15, and an audio version in Al Pacino’s voice is also available.
