Celebrity actress Michelle Yeoh scripted history as she became the first Asian woman to win the best actress award at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony that was held on Sunday night. She won the Oscar for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She also became the first Malaysian-born performer to win the best actress award as well as the second woman of color to win the award. More than a decade ago celebrity Halle Berry had won the same award, in 2002 for “Monster’s Ball” and this time around she presented the award to Michelle Yeoh.

In her acceptance speech at the Oscars, Yeoh appreciated many as she considered that her win related to “all the little boys and little girls” who looked like her and were watching the awards ceremony. She also described her win as “a beacon of hope and possibilities” and added that her winning the Oscar award was “proof to dream big and dreams do come true.”
Michelle Yeoh also said, “Ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you’re ever past your prime.” Many outlets including us believe that the talented actress might have been throwing shade on TV host Don Lemon who had insensitively and crudely commented on ageism and sexism when referring to a woman politician, as he hosted a show, for which he received a short, temporary suspension.
The celebrity actress, who is also known for her past performances in action and martial arts movies such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Yes, Madam, dedicated the Oscar to her mother as well as to “all the moms in the world” as they were the ones who were the real “superheroes” and that “without them none of us would be here tonight.”

She also thanked the amazing cast and crew of the film as well as her extended family in Hong Kong where she began her career in acting.

Celebrity actress Michelle Yeoh was not the only winner for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Celebrity stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis also won Oscars and so did the crew include awards for best picture, best screenplay and best director. The sci-fi adventure film that was nominated in 11 categories won a total of seven Academy Awards.
