Cleveland point guard Darius Garland exited the Cavaliers’ season opener against the host Toronto Raptors on Wednesday due to a left eye injury.

Garland appeared to be poked in the eye before exiting with 3:51 to play in the first half. The team’s medical personnel were checking on him as he left, and the Cavaliers ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

In 13 minutes before leaving, Garland scored four points on 2-of-8 shooting. He also had three assists and five turnovers.

The game was tied 47-47 when Garland came out. Cedi Osman, who entered the game when Garland left, also started the second half.

Garland, a 22-year-old Vanderbilt product, is starting his fourth NBA season, all with Cleveland. He was an All-Star for the first time last season, when he averaged 21.7 points, 8.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals — all career highs.

In 181 games (177 starts) before Wednesday, Garland had career averages of 17.4 points, 6.3 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals.
