The Boston Breach took their first loss and fell into a three-way tie for first place in qualifying for the Call of Duty League’s Major III on Saturday.
The Breach (3-1) fell to the Florida Mutineers (1-2), who moved out of first place with their first win in qualifying. Improving to 3-1 were the Atlanta FaZe, who beat the Las Vegas Legion (1-2), and the Toronto Ultra, who knocked off the New York Subliners (2-1).
In the day’s other match, the Los Angeles Thieves (2-1) defeated the Seattle Surge (1-1).
Major III, which includes all 12 Call of Duty League teams, will be hosted by OpTic Texas March 9-12 in Arlington, Texas. Qualifying for tournament weekend runs through March 5.
The Breach took the first map against the Mutineers, 250-211 on Zarqwa Hydroelectric Hardpoint. But Florida came roaring back, taking three straight maps: 6-2 on Al Bagra Fortress Search & Destroy; 3-1 on Al Bagra Fortress Control; and 250-185 on Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint.
Kenyen “Capsidal” Sutton led the Mutineers’ all-U.S. lineup with 77 kills, while Colt “Havok” McLendon had a team-best kills/deaths ratio of plus-1.23. Joseph “Owakening” Conley of the U.S. had 67 kills and was the only player with a positive ratio, at plus-1.18
The FaZe also spotted their opponent the first map, falling to the Legion 250-211 on Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint. But Atlanta scored consecutive wins on Mercado Las Almas Search & Destroy (6-2), El Asilo Control (3-0) and Embassy Hardpoint (250-104).
McArthur “Cellium” Jovel of the U.S. posted 71 kills and a plus-1.77 for the FaZe. Donovan “Temp” Laroda of the U.S. posted 55 kills for the Legion, who had no players with a positive ratio.
The Ultra did their damage right away, sweeping the Subliners. It started with a 250-235 win on Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint, continued 6-3 on Embassy Search & Destroy and concluded 3-2 on El Asilo Control.
Tobias “CleanX” Jonsson of Denmark led the winners with 65 kills and a plus-1.25 ratio, while Preston “Priestahh” Greiner of the U.S. had 62 kills, and countryman Cesar “Skyz” Bueno finished with a team-best plus-1.20 K/D for New York.
The Thieves needed four maps to defeat the Surge, and did it despite losing the first, Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint, 250-139. Then Los Angeles won three in a row, 6-4 on El Asilo Search & Destroy; 3-2 on El Asilo Control; and 250-235 on Zarqwa Hydroelectric.
Kenneth “Kenny” Williams posted 79 kills and a plus-1.16 ratio for the Thieves, while Amer “Pred” Zulbeari finished with 78 kills and a plus-1.18 mark for Seattle.
Week 2 action concludes Sunday with three matches:
