CALLOFDUTY News: Surge, OpTic, FaZe enter win column at CDL Major IV qualifying

The Seattle Surge, OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe each picked up their first victories of qualifying for the Call of Duty League’s Major IV on Sunday.

OpTic (1-0) played its first game of qualifying action and swept the London Royal Ravens 3-0. Meanwhile, the Surge (1-1) outlasted the Toronto Ultra 3-2, and the FaZe (1-1) beat the Florida Mutineers by the same score.

Major IV, which includes all 12 Call of Duty League teams, runs through April 16, with each victory worth 10 CDL points.

The Surge pulled out two close wins to start their match, 250-239 on Zarqwa Hydroelectric Hardpoint and 6-4 on El Asilo Search and Destroy. Toronto answered with a 3-0 triumph on Breenbergh Hotel Control and a 250-181 rout on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint. Seattle claimed victory with a tiebreaking 6-3 win on Al Bagra Fortress Search and Destroy.

Amer “Pred” Zulbeari of Australia had 91 kills for the Surge to lead all players.

OpTic cruised to a 250-68 rout of London on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint, then won 6-2 on Breenbergh Hotel Search and Destroy and 3-1 on Himmelmatt Expo Control. All four Texas players finished with positive K/D ratios, led by Dutch-American Cuyler “Huke” Garland (57 kills, plus-1.36 ratio) and Lebanese-Canadian Brandon “Dashy” Otell (56 kills, plus-1.81 ratio).

Atlanta’s back-and-forth match with Florida began with the FaZe winning 250-163 on Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint. The Mutineers edged the FaZe 6-5 on Embassy Search and Destroy. Atlanta won 3-0 on Breenbergh Hotel Control, but Florida countered with a 250-183 triumph on Embassy Hardpoint. The deciding map was Mercado Las Almas Search and Destroy, where the FaZe prevailed 6-3.

McArthur “Cellium” Jovel of the U.S. powered Atlanta with 84 kills and a plus-1.38 ratio.

Qualifying action continues Friday with three matches:
–Boston Breach vs. London Royal Ravens
–Florida Mutineers vs. Seattle Surge
–New York Subliners vs. Minnesota Rokkr
