The New York Subliners snuffed a ferocious comeback bid by the Los Angeles Thieves to pick up a 3-2 win on Sunday in qualifying action for the Call of Duty League’s Major V.

New York opened the match with victories on Zarqwa Hydroelectric Hardpoint (250-169) and Breenbergh Hotel Search & Destroy (6-2) before Los Angeles leveled things with a 3-2 win on El Asilo Control and a 250-212 triumph on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint. But the Subliners found their groove again, prevailing 6-2 on El Asilo Search & Destroy to ward off the Thieves.

France’s Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez finished with a match-high 91 kills and a plus-1.23 kills-death ratio for New York, while Dylan “Envoy” Hannon led the all-American Los Angeles squad with 79 kills.

Major V qualifying, which includes all 12 Call of Duty League teams, runs through May 21, with each victory worth 10 CDL points. Double elimination bracket play is scheduled for May 25-28 in Toronto, with the championship team receiving $200,000 from the $500,000 prize pool plus 65 CDL points.

In Sunday’s other action, OpTic Texas swept the Atlanta FaZe 3-0 and the Florida Mutineers pulled out a 3-2 victory against the Los Angeles Guerillas.

Texas used a match-opening 250-172 win on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint as momentum, using it to coast to victories on Embassy Search & Destroy (6-5) and Himmelmatt Expo Control (3-0).

The Mutineers had a much tougher time with Los Angeles, alternating wins and losses through the first four games before Florida took the decisive fifth map, Embassy Search & Destroy, 6-4.

Qualifying action continues Friday with three matches:
–Los Angeles Guerrillas vs. London Royal Ravens
–Florida Mutineers vs. Boston Breach
–Atlanta FaZe vs. Vegas Legion
