CALLOFDUTY News: Rokkr, FaZe earn berths in winner’s bracket final in CDL Major II

The Minnesota Rokkr and Atlanta FaZe contributed to a day filled with sweeps Saturday to advance to the winner’s bracket finals in the Call of Duty League Major II in Boston.

Those teams will begin Sunday’s action in pursuit of a berth in the grand final later Sunday. The loser drops down to the elimination bracket final and will have to win there to make it to the grand final.

The Rokkr defeated OpTic Texas 3-0, and the FaZe did likewise to the Toronto Ultra.

OpTic then won their elimination round match, sweeping the Boston Breach, and will take on the Los Angeles Thieves in the elimination semifinal on Sunday. The Thieves earned their spot in the match by sweeping the Ultra out of the double-elimination tournament.

Earlier, the Breach won their second-round match in the elimination bracket by sweeping the Los Angeles Guerrillas.

The Rokkr made quick work of OpTic, getting wins on Breenbergh Hotel Hardpoint 250-189, Embassy Search & Destroy 6-3 and El Asilo Control 3-1. Benjamin “Bance” Bance of Great Britain led Minnesota with 55 kills and a kills/deaths/assists ratio of plus-1.67. Brandon “Dashy” Otell of Canada had 49 kills for OpTic, who had no players with a positive KDA.

The FaZe’s sweep began with a 250-153 win on Mercado Las Almas Hardpoint, continued 6-1 on El Asilo Search & Destroy and concluded 3-0 on Breenbergh Hotel Control. McArthur “Cellium” Jovel of the U.S. posted 51 kills and a plus-1.65 KDA for Atlanta, while Thomas “Scrap” Ernst of the U.S. had 37 kills for Toronto.

OpTic survived some close calls to blank the Breach. They won 250-248 on Zarqwa Hydroelectric Hardpoint, 6-4 on Al Bagra Fortress Search & Destroy and 3-1 on El Asilo Control. Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro of the U.S. paced OpTic with 71 kills and a plus-1.31 KDA. Dylan “Nero” Koch of the U.S. posted 77 kills and also a plus-1.31 KDA for the Breach.

The Thieves’ sweep of the Ultra consisted of wins on Mercado Las Almas Hardpoint (250-165), Breenbergh Hotel Search & Destroy (6-2) and Breenbergh Hotel Control (3-1). Sam “Octane” Larew of the U.S. led the Thieves with 65 kills and a plus-1.55 KDA, while Jamie “Insight” Craven of Great Britain had 48 kills and a 1.0 KDA ratio for Toronto.

Earlier, the Breach also won close decisions en route to sweeping the Guerrillas. It began with a 250-228 win on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint, continued with a 6-4 victory on El Asilo Search & Destroy and ended 3-2 on Al Bagra Fortress Control. Joseph “Owakening” Conley of the U.S. dominated for the Breach, finishing with 54 kills and a plus-1.54 KDA. Kaden “Exceed” Stockdale of the U.S. had 49 kills for the Guerrillas.
