Mallory Beach’s family has reached a tentative settlement with defendants from the Murdaugh family, in the lawsuit filed in 2019, after a boat crash killed 19-year-old Mallory. A hearing on Thursday, January 19, 2023, by a state judge as well as an approval from a probate judge is required. Paul Murdaugh was reported drunk when he crashed a boat with people, including Mallory Beach, on board. All survived the crash, except Mallory, whose body was found a week later, in a marsh area, in Beaufort County.
According to the website–the state, one major defendant, who has agreed to settle with the Beach family, is Buster Murdaugh. He let his late, underage brother Paul Murdaugh buy alcohol, using his license, on the fateful day of the boat crash. If the settlement reached is approved by State Judge Daniel Hall and Probate Judge Leigh Boan, Buster will be dropped as a defendant.
According to Mark Tinsley, attorney for Renee Beach, who is Mallory’s mother, the Beach family had felt that
The estate of Maggie Murdaugh, the late mother of sons Buster and late Paul has also agreed to settle the case by selling her estate. The lawsuit claimed that her contribution to Mallory’s death was that she allowed her son Paul to drink and to pilot the outboard motorboat belonging to the family. According to the suit, the boat had crashed into the bridge pilings on Archer Creek, which is near Beaufort.
The parties have agreed to settle with some of the defendants as they want to avoid a long drawn and complicated fight. There is a possibility of litigation about a fraudulent transfer of the Moselle property by Alex Murdaugh to Maggie Murdaugh, in 2016.
Alex Murdaugh and Greg Parker’s chain of convenience stores remain on the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, one store of the chain of Greg Parker’s convenience stores sold alcohol to Paul Murdaugh. The alcohol contributed to the boat crash. So, the chain remains in the lawsuit.
Alex Murdaugh, the father of the late Paul Murdaugh and husband of late Maggie Murdaugh, is also in other lawsuits. He is facing many embezzlement charges, from his former clients and others.
Alex Murdaugh has also been implicated in the death of his late wife Maggie and late son Paul. If found guilty of the murder, he cannot inherit any part of her estate due to the “slayer statute,” in South Carolina.
