The Milwaukee Brewers will be without All-Star closer Josh Hader as they continue their three-game series in San Diego.

Hader is with his wife, Maria, who is expecting their first child.

“Josh’s wife has had complications with her pregnancy and they’re at a stage where Josh did not feel comfortable leaving,” manager Craig Counsell said before the series opener on Monday.

Milwaukee, which leads the National League Central, began a season-long 11-game, 10-day road trip at San Diego on Monday. Hader’s availability for the remainder of the series will be taken day-by-day, Counsell said.

Hader posted on Instagram just after Christmas that Maria was due to give birth to a boy in July.

The 28-year-old Hader has yet to surrender a run in the 2022 season. he’s converted all 15 save opportunities and has given up two hits, allowed five walks and struck out 21 batters in 13 2/3 innings. Opponents have a .045 batting average.

Hader’s last blown save was July 7 against the New York Mets. He has converted 29 straight save opportunities.
