According to local reports, one of the FBI’s top ten most wanted fugitives was apprehended in Spain on Wednesday after being charged with a slew of sex crimes related to his GirlsDoPorn website three years ago.
Michael James Pratt, 40, of New Zealand, was apprehended by authorities after checking into a hotel in Madrid under one of his known false identities, according to El Espaol. Spain’s National Police Corps released a video of the arrest on Friday.
The Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list now includes the owner and operator of a pornography production company who is accused of sex trafficking and producing child pornography. The FBI is offering a reward of $100,000 for information that results in his capture.
According to investigators, the women were persuaded that they would remain anonymous and that the videos were for a private collector overseas. Pratt and his associates allegedly employed other young ladies.
Pratt has victimized hundreds of young women through the course of this conspiracy,” said Supervisory Special Agent Renee Green with the FBI’s San Diego Field Office. One victim was under the age of 18 during her encounter with Pratt, according to court documents and investigators. Other victims reported being forced into sexual acts to which they did not consent, as well as being threatened and intimidated by Pratt and his partners when they learned their videos were posted to his websites and wanted them removed.
“He used deceit and lies and vindictiveness to torture the young women he caught in his snare.” Renee Green, supervisory special agent, FBI San Diego stated. “He used deceit and lies and vindictiveness to torture the young women he caught in his snare,” Green said. “And we believe that he will continue to look for the opportunity to victimize more women and more people for his own financial gain.”
Some of Pratt’s alleged conspirators, including adult performer and producer Ruben Garcia, had already been arrested. After pleading guilty to sex trafficking and conspiracy charges, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2021. Matthew Isaac Wolfe pleaded guilty in July to a single count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking for his role in the GirlsDoPorn scheme. In January 2019, a San Diego judge awarded $12.775 million in compensatory and punitive damages to 22 unnamed victims in a civil case against the company.
