A father (Ewan McGregor, winner of the Golden Globe®) takes his adult daughter (Clara McGregor) on a road trip to New Mexico to mend their troubled relationship and reconnect with his estranged child.
The two have a believable familial dynamic with a real father (Ewan McGregor) and daughter (Clarita Mathilde McGregor) in the central parts.
Much of the narrative revolves around the film’s exploration of addiction, which is intricately interwoven with the compelling estranged-parent subplot. Early in the movie, through snippets of poignant conversations, it is unveiled that the Father is embarking on a journey with his Daughter. Their destination? A rendezvous with an artist friend, cleverly a euphemism for rehabilitation, following the Daughter’s harrowing brush with death due to an overdose the previous night.
The unfolding drama takes them on a visually stunning odyssey through the breathtaking landscapes of the American Southwest, adding an evocative layer to this gripping tale.
