The 20th flight of Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 29. The Saturday Night Live (SNL) star will no longer accompany the NS-20 crew on this trip, according to a statement from Blue Origin spokesman Sara Blask.
American comedian Pete Davidson is no longer planning to embark on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin’s space voyage later this month, according to the space tourism company. The explanation offered is that the launch date has been pushed back from March 23rd.
On Blue Origin’s fourth crewed flight, Davidson was planned to be an “honorary guest” with five paying customers. Philanthropist Marc Hagle and wife Sharon Hagle, Party America CEO Marty Allen, Dr. George Nield, and University of North Carolina professor Jim Kitchen will be taking the flight. The sixth member will be announced in the next few days, according to Blue Origin.
While Davidson, has not said anything about the change in plans, it is probable that his hectic job schedule is prohibiting him from flying.
Blue Origin has brought a host of celebrities aboard its aircraft since its first successful human flight in July 2021. When he boarded Blue Origin’s second voyage, 90-year-old “Star Trek” actor William Shatner set a new record for the oldest person to travel to space. Michael Strahan, the host of “Good Morning America,” also recently attempted the journey.
The New Shepard rocket MISSION NS-20 takes humans to altitudes of nearly 60 miles above the earth’s surface. The objective is to make these suborbital spaceflights a staple of pop culture, providing a 10-minute supersonic thrill ride to invited guests, and anybody else who can buy it.
Participants will experience a few minutes of weightlessness before parachuting down to the ground after the short trip. The rocket’s engine is planned to land upright on a landing pad, while the capsule housing the crew, is designed to return to the surface via parachutes.
Davidson also played an astronaut on Saturday Night Live, in which his Chad character traveled to Mars on a SpaceX mission during an episode sponsored by Elon Musk.
The actor and comedian has recently been in the spotlight due to his romance with Kim Kardashian and the ensuing turmoil with her ex-husband, Kanye West. In terms of his career, Davidson continues to appear on “SNL” and co-stars with Kaley Cuoco in the upcoming romantic comedy “Meet Cute.”
