The first half featured 10 lead changes. San Diego State had a 10-5 advantage early, but Baylor went on a 9-0 spurt to go up 14-10. The Bears tied the game, 26-26, on a Skilings 3-pointer with 6:00 remaining in the half and had a 40-36 halftime lead.

A Harrington free throw with 7:55 to play ended a 4:35 scoreless stretch for the Aztecs, but Baylor soon had its largest lead, 80-62, after a Carr layup with 2:41 on the clock. San Diego State failed to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
