Frances Tiafoe saved three match points in the second set and controlled the third while rallying for a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Sebastian Korda in an All-American semifinal match at the Millennium Estoril Open on Saturday in Estoril, Portugal.
Overall, the fifth-seeded Tiafoe saved nine of 14 break points while defeating the eighth-seeded Korda in two hours, 55 minutes.
Tiafoe’s opponent in the finale will be Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, who recorded a 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-0 win over sixth-seeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain.
After losing the second-set tiebreaker, Baez dominated the third set. He didn’t lose a point in the opening game and equaled that feat while winning the final game to end the match.
BMW Open
Danish wild card Holger Rune converted 77.1 percent of his first-serve points while posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Germany’s Oscar Otte in Munich.
The victory allowed Rune, who turned 19 Friday, to reach an ATP final for the first time. He will face eighth-seeded Botic van de Zandschulp, who registered a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over seventh-seeded Serb Miomir Kecmanovic.
From the Netherlands, van de Zandschulp, overcame five double faults to earn the victory. The match took two hours, 52 minutes.
