Kyle Edmund, who ranked as Britain’s No. 1 player for 19 months, announced his retirement from tennis on Monday.

Edmund, 30, spent the last five years struggling to regain his form due to multiple injuries. That included three knee surgeries between 2020-22.

“Looking back, I can say I tried my absolute best in my career and my hardest to get back to where I was,” Edmund told the BBC. “The last five years have taken a toll with three surgeries and other injuries such as wrist, ab, hip and foot. There are no regrets whatsoever.”

Edmund won two ATP Tour events and reached his career-best ranking of No. 14 in 2018. He also reached the 2018 Australian Open semifinals – joining Andy Murray as the only Englishmen to reach the final four in that event since professionals were allowed to start playing in 1969.

Edmund also joined Andy Murray, Jamie Murray, James Ward and Dominic Inglot to bring the 2015 Davis Cup championship to Great Britain.
