Third-seeded Daniil Medvedev recorded his 350th ATP victory and moved into the quarterfinals by beating Dominik Koepfer of Germany 7-6 (5), 6-0 at the Miami Open on Tuesday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Medvedev, the defending Miami Open champion, has never won a tournament twice in his standout career.

The Russian had some nervous moments in the opening set and was down 4-0 in the first-set tiebreaker to Koepfer before winning seven of the next eight points to win the set. Medvedev then dominated the second set.

“I think sometimes it happens, when you lose the first set the way he lost it,” Medvedev said of the vast difference in the sets. “He played very good, probably was closer to winning it because of the 4-0 in the tie-break and when you lose such a set, especially when the points were tough, it brings your energy down.

“I knew I had to use that in the beginning of the second set. That’s why it was the most important and I managed to do it.”

Medvedev next will face No. 22 seed Nicolas Jarry of Chile. Jarry upset No. 7 Casper Ruud of Norway 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Jarry delivered 37 winners against just 19 for Ruud.

“I’m very happy with the result, very happy with the way I played today,” Jarry said. “I was very strong on court, not missing many easy balls. The conditions were so tough. The wind was extreme and Casper also, he’s a grinder. I’m very happy.”

Second-seeded Jannik Sinner of Italy also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Christopher O’Connell of Australia.

Sinner committed just seven unforced errors to O’Connell’s 17 while improving to 19-1 this year.

“I tried to serve really solid,” Sinner said. “He made a couple of mistakes in important moments and I think today was the key.”

Sinner will face Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. Machac was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Matteo Arnaldi of Italy.
