Australian Open champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew Monday from next week’s ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.

The top-ranked Spaniard won the ATP 500 event in the Netherlands last year but will not return to defend his title.

“After his exertions over the past two weeks, he needs more time to return to action,” the tournament announced on social media.

Alcaraz, 22, beat Novak Djokovic in Melbourne on Sunday to become the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam.
