Jannik Sinner schooled Learner Tien and clinched his third title of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in Wednesday’s final of the China Open in Beijing.

The top-seeded Italian needed only 72 minutes to finish off the 19-year-old American, who was competing in his first tour-level final. Sinner also won the Beijing crown in 2023 and joined Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as the only multiple-time winners of the ATP 500 event.

Sinner finished with 10 aces, saved both of his break points and took advantage of six double faults by Tien. The reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion compiled a 22-9 edge in winners and committed only nine unforced errors.

Rolex Shanghai Masters

Spain’s Jaume Munar outlasted Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in two hours and 42 minutes to win their opening round match at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in China.

Six other matches went to a third set. Australia’s Jordan Thompson defeated Denmark’s August Holmgren 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; Italy’s Luca Nardi rallied past Austria’s Sebastian Ofner 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann took down Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego 2-6, 6-3, 6-1; Belgium’s David Goffin recovered for a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alexandre Muller of France; Argentina’s Sebastian Baez overcame China’s Zhizhen Zhang 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; and Fabian Marozsan of Hungary held off Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Advancing to the second round in straight sets were Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, Italy’s Mattia Bellucci, Belgium’s Zizou Bergs, Croatia’s Marin Cilic, France’s Adrian Mannarino, Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka and Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot.
