Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo swept the final six games to complete a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 upset of top-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway on Friday at the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad in Switzerland.

Cerundolo’s comeback against the World No. 13 Ruud marked the biggest win of his career by ranking and sent him into the semifinals against Peru’s Ignacio Buse, a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 winner over Argentina’s Roman Andres Burruchaga.

The other semifinal at the ATP 250 clay-court event pits second-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan against France’s Arthur Cazaux. Bublik defeated No. 7 seed Francisco Comesana of Argentina 6-4, 6-3 in 72 minutes, while Cazaux outlasted home hopeful Jerome Kym 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-5.

Nordea Open

Top-seeded Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina advanced to the semifinals with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 defeat of No. 7 seed Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia in Bastad, Sweden.

Cerundolo, whose brother Juan Manuel, is in the semifinals in Gstaad, Switzerland, converted six of his eight break chances and will face No. 6 seed Luciano Darderi. The Italian dispatched fourth-seeded Sebastian Baez of Argentina 6-0, 6-2 in 66 minutes.

The ATP 250 clay-court tournament’s other semifinal matches No. 5 seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina against unseeded Jesper De Jong. Ugo Carabelli knocked out Austria’s Filip Misolic 6-3, 7-5 and De Jong rallied to defeat his fellow Dutchman and No. 2 seed Tallon Griekspoor 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Mifel Tennis Open

Seventh-seeded American Aleksandar Kovacevic beat top-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the final of this hardcourt event in Los Cabos, Mexico, where he will face Canada’s Denis Shapovalov in Saturday’s final.

Rublev, the No. 10-ranked player in the world, dominated the first set but lost his serve twice in the second. In the final set, serve held for the first eight games before Kovacevic broke to go up 5-4. He served out the next game to end it.

As for Shapovalov, the No. 3 seed made quick work of No. 8 seed Adam Walton of Australia in the other semifinal, winning 6-2, 6-2. In both sets, Shapovalov broke Walton’s serve in back-to-back opportunities to take control of the set.

Shapovalov is seeking his fourth career title and second this season. He won in Dallas in February. Kovacevic is still looking for his first championship.
