Three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka announced Friday that 2026 will be his final year on the ATP Tour.

The 40-year-old Switzerland native has won 16 titles and earned nearly $38 million in prize money since 2002.

Known for his one-handed backhand, Wawrinka won the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open and 2016 U.S. Open singles titles.

“ONE LAST PUSH,” Wawrinka posted on X. “Every book needs an ending. It’s time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player. 2026 will be my last year on tour.”

Wawrinka climbed as high as No. 3 in the world rankings in January 2014 and currently ranks No. 157 after posting a 4-13 record in singles play in 2025.

He reached the Nitto ATP Finals four times, including three consecutive runs to the semifinals from 2013-15.

Playing in the era of the “Big Three,” Wawrinka recorded at least three career wins against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Wawrinka led Switzerland to a Davis Cup title in 2014 and also won a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

He is scheduled to begin his final season at the United Cup in Perth, Australia, starting Jan. 2.
