Based on Shannon Burke’s 2008 novel Black Flies, Asphalt City (formerly known as Black Flies) is a 2023 American thriller drama film directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and written by Ryan King and Ben Mac Brown.
Young paramedic Ollie Cross (Sheridan) is paired with unwavering and seasoned New York City EMT Gene Rutkovsky (Penn) for the night shift. The gloomy evenings unveil a city in turmoil; Rutkovsky mentors Cross since every 911 call is frequently tricky and unpredictably resolved, risking their lives daily to assist others.
Cross quickly learns firsthand about the chaos and wonder of a work that swings between terrifying and poignant. He tests his relationship with Rutkovsky and raises ethical questions that could mean the difference between life and death.
