The prospect of a sale of the popular NFL team Washington Commanders is looking more possible after a Wednesday statement announced that team owner Synder has hired a major bank to handle a possible sale of the team. The statement also said that he has not as yet made a final decision on the sale. Potential buyers have been circling the team after reports of its owners troubles continue to surface. Now, sources says that two big billionaires Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z are teaming up to bid for the team.
Billionaire rapper Jay-Z has been interested in buying the Washington Commanders according to sources but would like to team up and buy it. The same sources say that the businessman/musician has found a partner in friend Jeff Bezos, a multi-billionaire.
The rap legend has a business partnership with the NFL, from 2019. The deal gave Hov (nickname of Jay-Z) company Roc Nation power over musical events including the NFL’s half time show and social justice initiatives.
Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post. He also has sufficient billions to invest in an NFL team. He considers Jay-Z a friend and has invited him to his yacht. A partnership between the two is a high probability. What remains uncertain is whether Synder will sell.
Other rich people are also interested in buying the Washington Commanders. They include Byron Allen and Robert Griffin III. However, if Bezos with his billions decides to make an offer, other suitors might not have a chance. However, the NFL will benefit as the price will rise. Reports say that the Washington Commanders could command a price of about $5 to $6 billion.
Washington Commanders team owner Snyder has two open investigations, led by Mary Jo White, who is a former Securities and Exchange Commission chair. One of the investigations is about an alleged sexual assault by a former Washington employee. The other investigation is about alleged financial improprieties that have taken place with the NFL team more than 10 years ago.
